About the Fabrics
About the Fabrics
These fabrics date from the late 19th century to the early to mid-20th century. Many of the fabrics had a prior life. They come to me as part of curtains, household textiles and clothing. Some of them are just precious fragments. Often these fabrics are hand sown together with tiny, even stitches. There are patches and repairs that convey to us how valuable these textiles were to their owners.
These are very old French textiles. As such, they may have tiny holes and faint spots. These just speak of their history and enhance the charm of the items. To preserve these fabrics, I have backed most of them with cotton lining.
When I first started working with vintage/antique European fabrics, I hoped to convey to my children a sense of history and an awareness of their European heritage. I also wanted my home to connect with nature by using natural materials, instead of man-made fibers. I can hardly tell you how much we have enjoyed the wonderful items made from these beautiful fabrics!
